The California Association of Business Brokers (CABB) membership shall be divided up into 10 Chapters, based on geographic location. The current Chapters are as follows:

  • Central Coast
  • East Bay
  • Inland Empire
  • Los Angeles
  • Orange
  • Sacramento
  • San Diego
  • San Fernando Valley
  • San Francisco
  • San Jose
  • Silicon Valley

The chapters are strictly geographic guidelines. Any CABB member may attend any Chapter’s functions regardless of where that member is based.

The purpose of the CABB Chapters will be to increase co-brokering throughout the state by fostering socialization and networking among the CABB members at a local level.

Upon becoming a member of CABB, business brokers will automatically be allowed to attend events as a CABB member at the Chapter level. There is no additional fee for Chapter membership. It is prohibited for Chapters to charge a fee for anything other than meeting and incidental costs, as prescribed below. CABB members are allowed to choose with which chapter(s) they shall be affiliated.

Each CABB Chapter shall have a chairperson appointed by the CABB Board of Directors. Chairperson terms will be annual and concurrent with the calendar year. If a vacancy occurs mid-term, the CABB Board of Directors may appoint a chairperson for the remainder of the current term.

The CABB Board of Directors shall have oversight of the Chapter Chairs and retain the authority to remove a chairperson from office, if deemed necessary, by a 2/3 majority vote of the Board.

It is the responsibility of the Chapter Chair to hold no less than one Chapter event per quarter, for a total of no less than four Chapter events annually. Each Chapter can hold meetings more frequently, if desired, but not more than one per month (12 annually). Events may not be scheduled within a week before or after a CABB conference, educational offering or quarterly meeting. Events may contain educational information/speakers, but should focus on the networking aspect. It is, therefore, recommended that each event include a meal function (e.g., a quarterly lunch, dinner or breakfast meeting).

Chapter Chairs may determine the cost of the Chapter events provided that the amount charged per person is adequate to cover all hard costs of said event. As the intent of the events is to bring as many members together as possible on a local level, the amount charged per person shall not render the association more than a 5% net income.

Chapter events are restricted to CABB members. Non-members of CABB may attend as a guest of a CABB member.

Chapter events may be posted on the CABB website and registration available online. It is the responsibility of the Chapter Chair to collect all monies for the event not paid in advance and submit same to the CABB office. All other accounting for the Chapter shall be done at the CABB office. Any necessary venue deposits shall be submitted to the CABB office for payment. All monies received at the Chapter level are considered CABB funds.

The Chapter Chair can, at his or her discretion, appoint others within the Chapter, as necessary, to aid him or her in handling the Chapter events and responsibilities. It is recommended that, at minimum, someone be appointed to handle monetary transactions associated with the Chapter events.

Each Chapter Chair may be issued a CABB credit card with a maximum credit of $1000. These shall be used to pay for any costs related to the programs, such as room deposits, if needed, food services, speaker costs, and incidentals such as name tags, duplication costs, etc. The Chapter Chair shall submit all receipts to the CABB office in order for payment to be made. The Chapter Chair may be held liable for any expenses incurred without collaborating documentation.

Resources from the CABB office, including a checklist for planning meetings and email and/or mailing lists of all members within their Chapter, shall be made available to the Chapter Chair. The CABB office will also provide any other reasonable support, as requested. The CABB office will also organize conference calls for all Chapter Chairs to convene and discuss ideas for future meetings; these calls will be facilitated by a CABB Board member.

Each Chapter Chair shall be assigned a Board member with whom to liaise. The Chapter Chair should utilize his or her designated Board member to provide local feedback to the Board of Directors.
