Human Resources Compliance - AB5 (Zoom Meeting)

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB) will host its next meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2020, from 10:00am to 11:00am, via Zoom. All registered attendees will be sent the Zoom login information the day prior to and the morning of the meeting.

During the presentation, Sarju Naran, attorney and chair of the Employment Law Team at Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel, will discuss selected terms and impact of AB5, as well as other updates in HR law for 2020 as they relate to broker advice for sellers and buyers of businesses.

Topics will include:

  • Independent contractor classifications after Dynamex and AB 5
  • Enforceability of arbitration agreements for California employment relationships
  • Increased minimum wage and salary thresholds
  • Protection against race discrimination based on hairstyles
  • Expanded statute of limitations for FEHA claims (harassment, discrimination, retaliation)
  • Extended deadline for harassment prevention training
  • Obligations for employers under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
