The CABB Certified Business Broker (CBB) is a privileged designation that identifies an experienced and dedicated Business Broker. The title distinguishes its holder as a seasoned, professional who has a solid educational background, proven accomplishments in completing business transactions, and an active members in the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB).


CBB BENEFITS

The CBB designation allows its holder the ability to differentiate from the competition. It is appropriate to use the initials CBB following your name in promotional materials and when signing correspondence. Many CBBs will find that it is an effective strategy, when marketing their services, to stress the benefits a client may expect by insisting on dealing with a certified professional. CABB also gives priority to CBB Brokers when buyers or sellers go to the CABB website to inquire about Business Brokers.

REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING A CBB DESIGNATION (eFFECTIVE UNTIL 12/31/17)

  • Membership in good standing with California Association of Business Brokers (CABB)
  • Agreement to uphold the Association's Code of Ethics
  • Successful completion of the following:
    • Completion of CABB 101 with a test score of 75 or better or see CABB Course 101 waiver form for experienced brokers
    • Completion of CABB 201 with a test score of 75 or better (the free, prerequisite online IBBA Course 210 test must be taken and passed prior to registering for CABB Course 201)
  • Proof of selling 5 business transactions (not Real Estate) that have successfully closed. - Download Transaction Proof Template
  • $50 Application fee

Effective 01/01/2018

    In addition to the above requirements, the following apply:

  • Proof of attendance (2) industry conferences in the past 4 years, including a minimum of 1 CABB Conference.

RENEWAL AND RECERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (Effective 12/31/17)

Renewal of the CBB designation is required. Every CBB must complete the current requirements by the following 4th anniversary of the award and each 4 years thereafter.

To recertify as a CBB, the following requirements must be met:

  • Membership in good standing with California Association of Business Brokers (CABB)
  • Agreement to uphold the Association's Code of Ethics
  • Completion of CABB 501
    • Please note: the re-certification class, CABB 501 is only offered 2 times a year (one in NoCal and one in SoCal) so please plan accordingly based on your expiration date.
  • $50 Renewal Fee

Effective 01/01/2018

    In addition to the above requirements, the following apply:

  • Proof of selling 5 business transactions (not Real Estate) that have successfully closed. - Download Transaction Proof Template
    • Four (4) credits are required and can be earned as follows:
      • $0 - $2 Million Transaction Value – Representing buyer or seller (1 Credit)
      • Above $2 Million Transaction Value – Representing buyer or seller (2 Credits)
      • Managing Broker – 0.5 Credits per transaction that you oversee
        (i.e. 8 transactions equal 4 credits)
  • Proof of attendance at two industry conferences in the past 4 years, including at a minimum of (1) CABB Conference. (Eligible: CABB, IBBA, M&A Source)
  • $50 Renewal fee

CBB One-Time BRIDGE Extension

Effective today through 12/31/17, a one-time bridge extension may be requested if your CBB credential has expired.

Requirements:

  • Membership in good standing with California Association of Business Brokers
  • Agreement to uphold the Association's Code of Ethics
  • Payment for $50 Extension Fee
  • Register for a CABB 501 course this year
